Olly Woodrow Wilson

      Olly Wilson obtained a B.M. (1959) from Washington University (St.Louis), an M.M. (1960) from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D. (1964) from the University of Iowa. Among his COmposition teachers were Robert Wykes, Robert Kelley, and Phillip Bezanson. Wilson studied electronic music in 1967 at the studio for Experimental Music at the University of Illinois and studied West African music in Ghana from 1971 - 1972. He received the 1968 Darmouth Arts Council Prize and commissions by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Fromm Foundation. Among his recorded works are "Cetus," "In Memoriam Martin Luther King, Jr.," "Piece for Four," "Piano Piece," and "Akwan Wry Fragments" for tenor and percussion.
