McConnell has
performed to critical acclaim throughout the Eastern U.S. and Europe.
Her artistry has been called "superb" by The Cleveland Plain Dealer and
"spectacular" by the Washington Post. She is the recipient of many awards,
including the Great Lakes Regional Metropolitan Opera and Marian Anderson
competitions. McConnell's performed roles include Tosca,the Countess,
Giulietta, Donna Anna and Elisabetta in Donizetti's Maria Stuarda. She
sang the role of the beggar woman in the world premiere of The Egg by
Gian Carlo Menotti, with the composer conducting. In Europe, she has performed
at the Deutsches Theatre in Munich, Germany; Teatro Vittoria Emmanuelle
in Messina, Italy; Teatro Massimo in Palermo; and the Vatican in Rome.
McConnell sang the role of Serena in Gershwin's Porgy and Bess in the
landmark Radio City Music Hall/Sherwin Goldman production at Radio City.
She has recorded for Dante and Centaur records. Her CD, The Art Songs
of Harry T. Burleigh (Centaur), is critically acclaimed. McConnell has
written and frequently presents a lecture-recital on Burleigh's songs,
recently at the Sorbonne in Paris. Performances the past two seasons have
been at the Cleveland Institute of Music Art Song Festival; Strathmore
Hall; the University of Arizona; the Badia Di Cava Music Festival in Cava
Di Tirreni, Italy; and the Festival 500 in St. John's, Newfoundland. McConnell
performed this season with the Baltimore Symphony. She is on the voice
faculties of the University of Maryland and Catholic University.
